Grants Content Kit: Built by a Mission-Driven Community, for Communities with a Mission
For nonprofits, grants are often the fuel that powers real-world impact. However, grant writing can be a time-consuming, repetitive, and often an overwhelming process. From struggling to locate past narratives to re-inventing the wheel for each new application, valuable hours are lost that could be spent advancing your mission. That’s why Client Cloudcare is thrilled to have been a part of developing the Grants Content Kit—a Salesforce-based, open-source tool built specifically to streamline the grant writing process and ensure your best content works for you.
It provides a smart, centralized library of reusable content blocks helping teams work more efficiently, maintain message consistency, and reduce reliance on institutional memory.

Our Involvement– How the Grants Content Kit was developed
The Grants Content Kit originated as a Salesforce Labs Project, brainstormed and developed by an all-Salesforce employee team in 2022. It was conceived to address the specific needs of organizations working on climate justice issues, beginning with a focus on grant funding for a water project. Later in 2023, Mary Crozier, CEO and founder of Client Cloudcare, joined the effort. She supported the continuation of the project when a new product owner was needed to step in, helping to transform the initial concept into a community-supported, Salesforce-based technology solution for mission-driven organizations.
What is this a solution for? The time-consuming process of applying for grants to secure funding—later named the Grants Content Kit.
Community-driven from the start, the GCK has been co-designed and tested with volunteers from the Salesforce climate justice impact lab fellows, Client Cloudcare, and many other community members. It was officially established in Open Source Commons in 2022 and has evolved from a brainstorm session to a product, then to a tested version, and finally to a reviewed and approved tool ready for use.
The team committed to refining the kit based on feedback from detailed user interactions, especially from nonprofit community members. They put the Grants Content Kit through many rounds of UI/UX testing (user interaction, user experience) during Sprints throughout 2023-2024 and passed the security review in August of 2025. The Grants Content Kit is a product of thoughtful improvements and quality testing and Client Cloudcare couldn’t be prouder of the outcome.
The Challenges of Grant Writing
Those who work in nonprofits know that there is always pressure to keep costs low, resulting in vital missions being stretched thin, for whom Grants are critical funding. Those who work in securing funding for organizations also know, the writing or applying of grants is tedious—and oftentimes, with the aforementioned pressure to keep costs low, this responsibility is stacked on top of someone’s already very full job. The time involved in securing funding cuts into time spent focusing on one’s mission.
Another challenge in the nonprofit world is staff turnover and maintaining continuity in times of transition. What happens if the individual responsible for securing funding— someone with a wealth of knowledge and experience— leaves? Where does that knowledge go? Potentially years of contextual knowledge and the ability to effectively tell the organization’s story leaves with that person.
The Grants Content Kit addresses all of this. From the start, those involved in the project shared a focus on reducing costs while improving functionality. By leveraging open-source initiatives, this project provides a pathway for foundations to keep costs low while improving access to high-performing technology—resulting in a sustainable, efficient solution for the nonprofit sector.

Grant Managers: For the Grant Manager, the kit provides a sort of mission control center by having an all-in-one, secure, accessible place. The kit streamlines work, shows progress of writers, and keeps track of deadlines. The kit also helps with collaborations when one utilizes chatter. Furthermore, managers can also get analysis for what content blocks are working and proving successful.
Grant Writers: The Grants Content Kit shifts the writing process away from the blank page. Pull data-driven blocks of content, to start building what’s needed for an application. This lets writers do what they do best—grounding the request for funding in a story.

Does the Grants Content Kit Leverage AI?
There is an AI addition to the Grants Content Kit, but this is designed to be separate, and optional add-on, not built into the kit. This keeps the core kit clean for those that don’t want it or aren’t ready for implementing AI.
What if my organization hasn’t applied for funding before?
If you’re a part of an organization that is just starting to apply for funding, you’re in luck. The Grants Content Kit lowers the barrier to entry by providing practical, useful examples right away for content like: program narratives, executive summaries, or statements of needs.
